Pronunciation rules in liaison
The pronunciation rules for liason are as follows:
- p, t, c, k, q do not change: trop étroit, cinq étudiants
- d, g is pronounced [t, k]: grand homme
- f, s, x is pronounced [w, z, z]: neuf heures, vous avalez, dix enfants
- nasal ã, õ, ö retain nasality: en assez, en avertir, on a, un ami
- nasal e is preserved in bien and rien: bien aimé
- nasal e becomes [εn] in the endings: -ain, -ein, -ien, -yen: vilain enfant.
In the words mon, ton, son the terminal nasal õ can stay nasal or lose its nasal character.
