Use of subjuntivo mood
This mood in main sentences replaces imperative in 1st and 3rd person and in negative.
In subordinate clauses this mode occurs:
- if the verb of the main sentence expresses an order, request, wish, will, doubt, fear (eg ordenar, querer, dudar, temer): quiero que sea en Guatemala- I want him to be in Guatemala;
- after the pronouns cualquier, quienquiera;
- after many conjunctions (eg a fin de que, sin que, hasta que, aunque);
- in conditional sentences: if you were here you would be pleased - si fuere aquí, estaría contento.
