German vowels can be short or long.
Vowels are pronounced as short when followed by a double consonant, tz or ck : lassen, Nacken, Netz, Pappe .
Vowels are also short:
- in a series of monosyllabic words: ab, an, bis, das, es, man, mit, ob, um, von have short vowels, < / p>
- if there is more than one consonant after a vowel: Kunst, Hirt ,
- if the vowel is followed by: ng, sch, ch: Pech, Woche .
