Languages are divided into language families.
Ten largest language families (with highest number of speakers):
1. Indo-European
2. Sino-Tibetan
3. Niger–Congo
4. Afroasiatic
5. Austronesian
6. Dravidian
7. Turkic
8. Japonic
9. Austroasiatic
10. Thai-Kadai
Such languages like English, German, Spanish, French, Danish, Swedish belong to the Indo-European family.
The second largest family is Sino-Tibetan. Its biggest representative is Chinese.
Swahili (Kiswahili) belongs to the third, Niger-Congo family.
Most known languages from the Austroasiatic family are Arabic and Hebrew.
Indonesian, Tagalog, "Cebuano belong to the Austronesian family.
Thai belongs to the Thai-Kadai family.
Turkish, Turkmen, Uzbek belong to the Turkic family.
Apart from these largest language families, there are about 200 smaller families. One example are families of Amerindian languages, like Quechuan, Aymaran, Mayan or Tupi-Guarani (with Guarani language).
